“The Jimmies” are golf enthusiasts who host an annual charity tournament in Southern California. The tournament is for golfers of all skill levels. Many of our annual participants are new to the game of golf. We encourage first timers to team up and experience golf the way it was intended, for fun!
Where Did We Get The Name “Jimmies”?
Believe it or not, “Jimmy” is a Seinfeld reference. "The Jimmy" is the 105th episode of the NBC sitcom Seinfeld. This was the 19th episode for the 6th season. It aired on March 16, 1995. Jimmy is a character who always refers to himself in the third person, so of course the other characters begin speaking in the same manner as well. The story, as do most episodes, leads in about five different directions involving all of the cast members. The twists and turns end with Jimmy being hauled away by security yelling, "Jimmy's gonna get you, Kramer! Hands off Jimmy! Don't- touch-Jimmy!!!"
Mark (Jimmy) decided six years ago he wanted to put on a golf tournament for his friends. A new golfer at the time himself, Mark solicited help from Greg (Jimmy), an avid and very average golfer. The plan was to host a charity tournament without a corporate sponsor, locate players and donors and do it all in less than six months. Jimmy never thought it would be possible but Jimmy was confident. So confident in fact that low and behold, six months later the Jimmies hosted their very first tournament.
Enter another Jimmy (Chris). For the last five years this Jimmy has performed the MC duties at the dinner after the tournament. He is a good friend of both the Jimmies and an excellent golfer, but that is not why he was asked to MC the event. He can talk for-e-e-e-e-e-ver! A good thing for an MC.
Everyone who simply enjoys the game of golf becomes a Jimmy to us. This year we are encouraging returning Jimmies to invite new players to the tournament, no matter how long they have golfed.
The tournament is set up again this year as a four-person scramble. All players tee off. The team selects the one ball position of the four they want to play. All four players hit a ball again from that location and the format is followed until the ball is holed. Two drives must be used from each of the four players in a group. As always, there will be a “low gross,” winner and the Peoria system will be used to determine “low net” winners. Every team has a chance to win.
Jimmy loves his golf!
